Aerofoil extends your Windows laptop battery life by automatically switching power profiles
So as your laptop ages, intelligent power management becomes increasingly important. The question is "how do I keep this thing from hogging so much samsung SGH-F480 battery when it's not connected?"
Sure, Windows has built-in power profiles; but for some reason, right-clicking the battery icon only shows two profiles (out of the three default ones), and somehow that list never includes the particular profile I'm trying to switch to (I have four profiles).
Aerofoil is a free application that strives to make the power-saving process painless. It's one of those things that should have been built into Windows in the first place: As soon as your laptop switches to Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 battery power, Aerofoil switches the power profile to Power Saver. Plug the hp laptop battery back in, and Aerofoil switches you back to High Performance (or whatever you've got configured).

Apple's New MacBook Air Is The Laptop I've Been Waiting For
I've never been a big fan of laptop computers, for the simple fact that they've always been too heavy to carry around on a daily basis, taking them everywhere I go.
But the new MacBook Air seems to finally be lightweight enough to carry around all the time, and cheap enough to justify buying as a secondary computer.
It seems to finally be the laptop I've been waiting for.
I haven't had a chance to check out the new Air in person yet, but based on the specs, I think I'm going to buy one of the smaller, 11.6-inchers.
(I tried to impulse purchase one at my local Apple Store this afternoon, or at least try it in person, but apparently they won't be in stock for 2 weeks.)
Most important: At 2.3 pounds, it's less than half the weight of my previous laptop, the 2007-era plastic MacBook, and just 44% heavier than my iPad. This seems to be light enough to carry around in my backpack every day, as opposed to just days I think I'll need it, or when I'm traveling on business.
Next-most important: At $999 -- though I may buy a few of the available upgrades, such as more memory and a faster chip -- it's cheap enough to buy, knowing I might not be using it every day. (With 27-inch, quad-core iMacs at work and at home, the MacBook Air will only be used on-the-go, in conference rooms, etc.)
Why buy a MacBook Air when I already have an iPad? Because, as I laid out in my 100-day iPad review, I still can't use my iPad for work, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to any time soon.
I need to be able to use multiple apps at the same time, a Firefox-based browser for Business Insider's content management system, and other functions that work better on a computer than an iPad. And I need to type a lot, and I don't really feel like dragging around a Bluetooth keyboard all the time. Even when the iPad 4.2 software update comes out next month, I don't think the iPad is going to be a sufficient device for my work.
Does this mean I'll be carrying around both my iPad and my MacBook Air every day? Probably not -- seems like a waste. My hunch is that I'll just leave my iPad at home now, and use the Air at the office. But we'll see.
Either way, this looks like the first Mac laptop -- of the four I'll have ever owned -- that I'll be able to comfortably carry around on an everyday basis. And that should make it the most useful Mac laptop I'll have ever owned, making it well worth the price.

How to do a Macbook battery Replacement
Apple will replace a battery that has failed on a Macbook that is under two years old. There are some who are reporting that although they are experiencing the batteryproblem with the Macbook, since it has been over two years since they bought their Macbook, Apple won't replace the batteries. The program extends the battery repair coverage for as much as two years after the battery was bought for the Macbook and Apple will continue evaluation of the update program for the batteries and will provide further extensions as required. Common problems include the battery pack becoming deformed, a fully charged battery runs out quickly, and the Macbook batteryfails to charge after having been plugged in to an AC adapter outlet.
If the battery in your Macbook is deformed you're eligible for a replacement. However, you'll have to make an appointment with an Apple representative. First, your Macbook isn't in any danger. It's a battery performance problem only. Apple has stated the factors that are causing the performance problems don't present a safety risk and you can continue to use your current laptop battery. You need to shut the Macbook down and then take the battery out and then reinstall it. Should the problem continue you should upgrade to a minimum of OS 10.4.9. This can be done by software update which can be downloaded. The next thing that you should try is battery update 1.2 which is the software that improves functionality by updating the battery's firmware. You should run the batteryupdate be run on all Macbook Pro and MacBook computers and extra batteries that were bought between February 2006 and April 2007. You can download the software update and install it. This battery update requires at least OS 10.4.8. If your Macbook is still having a problem after running Battery Update you should make an appointment to bring your Macbook into your local Apple laptop battery authorized service provider or Apple store. If you're somewhat technically resourceful and you'd like to try some other things prior to taking it in for servicing, you can begin by determining how often your batteryhas recycled.
Your Macbook battery should still be working properly after as many as 300 cycles. This might tell you if maybe your problem is that the battery is too old to hold a charge. Another option is to reset the System Management Controller. Although this isn't related to this battery problem specifically, calibrating yourbattery every now and again is easy and a good thing to do.
