The New iPad Has a Really Massive Battery

When Apple unveiled the new iPad (which is now designated as "third gen" from Apple's site), it said boasted that it featured battery life that was no different from that of the iPad 2.

Having something the same as the previous generation isn't typically something to brag about, but in this case, it is. The battery of the new iPad is 42.5 Wh, which is literally huge. The one in the iPad is just 25 Wh in comparison, making the new one 70 percent greater in capacity.

To put that in perspective, that's more juice than in the 11-inch MacBook Air and nearly as big as the battery in today's 13-inch MacBook Air at 50 Wh.

Obviously LTE brings a lot more battery drain, as evidenced by 4G smartphones. The real need for all that extra power is likely the upgraded screen with its 3.1 million pixels.

The new iPad may be thicker and heavier than the iPad 2, but all that heft and bulk (which is actually quite minimal) has gone to all the places where it counts.

We can't wait to see the teardowns to show us how much of the entire device is just battery.

Heftier battery makes new iPad will be thicker and heavier; battery life unchanged

Apple’s new iPad will be thicker and heavier than the iPad 2 because it features a bigger, more powerful battery.

Even with a bigger battery, the battery life of the device stays the same: about 10 hours. That’s because Apple has quadrupled the screen resolution, which in turn requires more computing power.

Apple revealed the device Wednesday at an event in San Francisco.

The new iPad will be 9.4 millimeters thick, or 0.37 inches. That compares with 8.8 millimeters, or 0.34 inches, for the iPad 2.

The weight of the Wi-Fi-only model is going up from 1.33 pounds to 1.44 pounds. Models equipped with modems for cellular data access are slightly heavier.

The weight places the new iPad in between the original iPad and the iPad 2. However, the new iPad is still significantly slimmer than the first iPad, which was half an inch thick.

The battery capacity of the new iPad is 70 percent higher than for the iPad 2.

The new iPad will go on sale on March 16 in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

How to increase Battery life of your android device

The battery life of android phones and tablets are experienced to be too low compared to devices running  on other operating systems such as Symbian and windows. The reason behind this difference is not only hardware but the way the OS runs in your device. There are certain tips to increase the battery life up to a good extent.

1. Exit Unwanted apps

If you hide applications it will be running in back ground and so taking a portion of the processor and hence the battery life. So when ever a running application is not wanted exit it or 'back' from it.

2. Use an application killer

You can use an application killer to completely exit the applications and hence saving a lot of battery life and reduce the wastage of RAM.

3. Turn of frequent mail alerts

Applications providing frequent mail alerts will access internet connectivity to get its information updated. This will use a lot of battery. So avoid using these applications if its not a must.

4. Turn off Wi Fi

If Wi Fi is turned on it will frequently search for available Wi Fi spots and this will consume the charge. So turn off Wi Fi whenever its not needed.

5. Use 2G mode

If internet access is not needed put the network mode in 2G. Using 3G or Dual mode will kill the battery charge.

6.Turn off weather updates

Try to avoid using applications such as weather updates. Use it to a minimum if its a must.

7. Display Brightness

Use display brightness according to the need. Use minimum brightness and get more power back up.

Nokia PureView Q&A with Damian Dinning

We’ve had a lot of questions from our readers about the technology in Nokia 808 PureView. We asked our favourite camera expert, Damian Dinning, to provide some answers.
Q: How much full HD video can you record with a full battery without having to recharge? Does it matter whether the phone is offline/online?
A: We have not yet finalised battery performance measurements but our expectation that the amount of shots and video you can record in relation to battery life will be similar to the Nokia N8
Q: What is the longest video clip you can record on a 32Gb memory card with the best possible picture and sound quality?
A: The maximum length single video clip you can record in 1080p @30fps is approximately 27minutes depending on the recorded content. LC.BTP03.003 This equates to approximately 150mb per minute of video recorded.
Q: How fast is it to swap memory cards?
A: Swapping memory cards requires removal of the back cover and battery
Q: Can you explain this “oversampling” idea in layman’s terms? How can seven pixels make one?
A: Please see the white paper on the topic. We capture the information you want to keep from the 7 pixels, the detail and filter the information you don’t want, the noise. The results in significantly less noise (in many situations no visual noise at all) whilst retaining industry leading amounts of detail.
Q. Does the camera interface remember your settings from one use to the next? Having to re-set the settings can be annoying.
A. If you are using creative it always returns to exactly where you were as standard.
Q. Why was this introduced in a Symbian phone and not a Lumia?
A. The technology behind the 808 was a five-year development project. A1185 Apple. We wanted to bring this technology to the market as soon as we could to start delighting people with a passion for high quality pictures and videos.
Q. Will PureView appear in other products, such as Nokia Asha or Nokia Lumia phones in the future?
A. Aspects of this technology will be used in future products yes.
Q. Will it be possible to add a raw format?
A. RAW  in a digital camera is easier to handle as typically images have to pass through a PC, whereas RAW on a smartphone brings a whole host of end to end experience challenges, which result in some kind of compromise in the experience somewhere A32-F3 Battery. We do however provide full resolution images that correspond to the aspect ratio in use as well as a reduced compression setting.
Q. How did you manage to get a phone to do so much processing that it can process 34 megapixels into 1080p/720p/nHD up to 30 times per second?
A. Please see the white paper.
Q. Why does the camera bulge out so much from the back of the phone?
A. This is due to the extremely large sensor and the optics required to match the resolving capability of the super high resolution sensor. Presario CQ62 COMPAQ Battery
Q. What is the battery capacity on this? If you’re out all day taking photos using this camera, doesn’t it drain the battery?
A. We have not yet finalised battery performance measurements but our expectation that the amount of shots and video you can record in relation to nokia battery life will be similar to the Nokia N8
Q. Is there any Nokia made equipment, tripods etc. that will help make make this phone a perfect filming device?
A. There is a tripod adaptor Inspiron 1520 Battery allowing you to mount the 808 to any tripod, portable USB charger and a dedicated case with a removable cap to protect the camera.
Q. Is the phone made out of polycarbonate?
A. Yes, but with a ceramic-like finish. Other materials used include stainless steel for the buttons and switches and camera bezel and Gorilla glass for lens protection and for the display.
